Anya Katsukova
Anya Katsukova is a nurse studying to be a doctor under the supervision of Dr. Blythe. She is not originally from Esk. As a result of the location where she was raised, Anya does not believe in spirits, magic or anything that cannot be explained with scientific logic (as far as we know). Anya is quite the career minded woman, having decided to become a doctor and going against the tradition of marrying. With her ambitious mindset, she won't let anyone stand in the way of her goal, distancing herself from well meaning characters like Robyn because of her preconceptions. Her ability to remain distant is also noticeable when she comments that Mr. Jerral's condition is very "fascinating," whereas Mrs. Jerral's adjective choice of "frightful" is likely to be a more common reaction.
Her personality is pretty serious and she doesn't smile often, but Anya is kind to pretty much everyone. She cares and worries about the health of those around her. Of course, Anya isn't very talkative either. For the most part she only speaks when prompted, but if she's frustrated enough she won't stand to be ignored. The girl also has a strong sense of duty, considering that she's constantly working and never taking time for herself.
Conclusions drawn from her interactions with other characters suggest that Anya puts up walls, and you have to knock on the bricks in an odd way to knock them down, like in Harry Potter's Diagon Alley (why yes, I am a geek, and yes, I did just compare TPR to HP). Petria brings out a more cheerful, smiling Anya and they play off each other really well, whereas Robyn brings out a more silent and less inviting Anya. Jonas on the other hand gets a mixed bag; the way Anya reacts to Jonas is very different than how she treats others. For example, Anya has cooked for Jonas and allowed him to walk her home. Both of these incidents appear to be rare, judging from Petria's and Robyn's reactions to them. Whether or not these are the result of romantic feelings has yet to be revealed.
